17 brands recall 1 5 million bikes for quick release issue. 17 mountain bike brands are voluntarily recalling 15 million mountain bikes with quick releases. Todd Aalgaard October 1. 17 Brands Recall 15 million Bikes For Quick-Release Issue A joint voluntary recall involving certain bikes equipped with front-wheel quick-releases and disc brakes was announced today.
The brands included in the recall are. The voluntary recall which involves 17 different bike brands produced between 1998 and 2015 was initiated because of the risk that an open quick-release lever can. In a huge wide-reaching move seventeen leading bike manufacturers have recalled 15 million bikes officials with the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association announced.

Thirteen companies representing 17 brands of bikes have joined together in a voluntary recall effort that could affect up to 15 million bikes in north America. 17 brands announced a coordinated recall of the affected QRs totaling 15 million bikesThe recall affects a class of quick release skewers across several brands that supplied them to the bike makers. In these 15 million bikes the quick release QR can open more than 180 degrees thereby catching in the disc brake rotor.
Over potential quick release malfunctions that can cause the devices to open to 180 degrees and come into contact with the front disc brakes. In an expansive investigation stemming off of the recent recall of over 1 million quick releases on Trek bikes 13 more companies that represent a total of 17 brands that have used the same style quick release on bikes with disc brakes between 1998 and present are coming forward and issuing a voluntary recall through the Consumer Product Safety Commission CPSC and the Bicycle. Earlier in 2015 Trek recalled about 900000 bikes because of the issue.
The countrys major specialty bike vendors recalled about 13 million bicycles sold under 17 brands in the United States since 1998 after concluding they use quick releases that can become entangled in the bikes front disc brake rotor when improperly closed. Trek has issued a recall for faulty quick-release skewers used on many of its lower-end and mid-ranged models produced since 2008. Enve Recalls 600 Disc Road Forks.
